Tips on choosing best Coaching Institutes for IAS Preparation

There are several IAS academies but to find the best one could be the toughest task. Here are some tips that may be useful while searching coaching centers.

  • Nowadays new IAS IPS academies seem to open very frequently now and then so it is wiser to test out the old as well as the new ones talking to the students enrolled there.
  • The best way to choose a good academy is to find out the past results of the academy and the subject material they provide. Also verify their performances in last few years.
  • Check out whether the owner himself of coaching is giving the class or people who are simply hired to teach you. Some institutes have brilliant teacher for a particular subject but not necessarily for all the other subjects so better check up the credentials of the teachers for different subjects.
  • Don’t go by the brand name, some academy have built their reputation and living in the past glory. There is a huge amount of money that’s charged by such academy, please make a comparison of the fee structure before enrolling yourself.
  • Now in the revised pattern of the UPSC Exam  Mains syllabus, the focus has shifted from Optional papers to General Studies. So try to find out which institute has the best staff to handle the revised General Studies papers.

We strongly suggest you to depend upon self study and do not run behind coaching institutes. However if you want to save little time in the beginning of your preparation, coaching institutes will definitely help you. None of coaching owners can guarantee you success, neither they will promise you exceptional result just because of classes you are going to attend. Mentors/teachers from any of above mentioned institutes will not deny the importance of  self study.

  1. Some time it feels me that I should take coaching but the very next time it is wastage of time.. Is it really necessary to take coaching for beginners?? Please guide me..

    • no friend . it is not at all necessary . Yes it is a wastage of time and money as they charges a lot.
Yes there are some advantages that you will be in environment of competition and you may be abide of your Goal . but do not worry if you are really a self motivating person in yourself then these deficiency would be clear by your own.

if you join the coaching, the days in starting will go smoothly and may it feel that’s Yes ! its good but at your middle interval you must going to feel that there is very rush .
Mind not working ! what to study ? what to do? do your long duration 8-10 hour of classes or seeking time for yourself.?

best think to do.. prepare by yourself .
but wait!! surf on internet no coaching class can take the place of your laptop , which is on your Lap !
with internet facilities . go through Amazon and Flipkart lots of book is there . see pattern of exam explore more and more on internet meet whom who are preparing or who have cracked and
follow good and standard book !
again in bold A STANDARD BOOK.!
**remember all book are not standard !
      all the best.

        • first u have to study all ncerts and after 2-3 revisions go for standard books .
          polity – laxmikanth
          economy – sriram ias
          modern history – spectrum book
          ecology – shankar ias
          geography – ncerts 11 &12 class .
s&t – daily newspapers like hindu , indian express .
art & culture – ccrt website

          • Dear Friends,Can anybody tell me which book to refer?
Iam preparing without going to any of the coaching centre.
But in confusion of choosing books

    • No not at all…unless you have control on your study time…do regular study keep concepts clear…

    • No…its not necessary….. All you have to do is understanding the things….be focused, build discipline, be constant….and get best material subject wise

    • I was also confused between wheather should I go for coaching or not, I had nearly decided that I will do self study , searched the net for booklidt which was esy to find watched ample number of videos on how to go about cracking the exam this built confidence in me that yes i can do it.

But then i encountered a video by vusion ias its a 3 hour video, and it changed my perspective about coaching centres its always beneficial to make a ingormrd choice I could easily understand why good coaching are important for a student and what will happen if he opts for only self study. I agree coaching charge a lot but if you compare it with what they give at the end they become much valuable asset in your success. Just by reading prescribed books a person cannot crack the exam ,nowadays the exam needs a proper guidance from experts who can polish your already existing skill and make you suitable for the exam. There is a lot to study going websites there are enormous list of books but upsc is not about beeing a book collector you should keep your sources limited and for the rest compliment and supplement with coaching material because ther is a whole team who do extensive resesrch and prepare a condensed form of material which otherwise would cost you hours to do it ,which is of great help you dont have luxury to waste your time on mistakes which you may do while doing self study, a proper step by step guidace will make sure that you are on right track since the beginning if you dont have money its ok dont go for coaching but if you can afford pls go for it but dont just depend on coaching it is you who has write the exam you will have to do your part everyday and take help from coaching ,a help can do no harm unless not taken properly , There are many instances where a person does not make through exam even taking coaching but thete are still many who do it lies on us whete do we want to stay .I would not say much say go and watch the video on youtube on vision ias channel , its a long video do watch it till the end because several teachers come and present their subject and its approach.

Note :- I am not promoting any coaching institute but just its relevance in prepartion, decide by yourself based on self research.

Wish you all thr best 🙂
