Topper’s Story – Apurva Dubey IAS, 2012

Apurva Dubey had cleared the India’s toughest examination by clinching All India Rank 19th in UPSC Civil Services Exam 2012 and has brought laurels to her family.

Family Background

Her father Dr. Sanjay Dubey is an Additional Director General (A) at Prasar Bharati Secretariat in New Delhi. Her mother is a house maker and imbued her great confidence and sister were a source of emotional support. And her friends wished well for her and helped her in many ways.

Educational Background

Apurva Dubey did her schooling from Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh and got graduated from Venkateswara College (DU) in English Honours. She was pursuing Law from Delhi University. She completed her PGDM in Human Resources from Institute of Technology and Management. It was during her college days in Delhi where she got attracted towards career in Civil Services and she had finally made up her mind to immerse in CSE.

Attempts by Apurva Dubey

Apurva Dubey cracked UPSC Exam in her second attempt and came out with flying colors securing 19th rank. In her very first attempt she could not clear the Mains Examination.

Optional Paper

Apurva Dubey opted for Law and Public Administration as her optional paper. Law was something she was pursuing from Delhi University Law Faculty, and so she chose this subject. And she opted for Public Administration because of its general nature.

Success Strategy

Every day Apurva tried to go through both optional subjects and at least a single topic of General Studies. This regularity somehow helped her in managing time well.

She had been reading IAS toppers interviews and for that matter every interview in certain way motivated her. It was certainly a planned decision. It was not her parent’s wish; yet, they really supported her throughout her journey.

Tips for Young Aspirants

  • Be focused, patient and determined.
  • Work hard and it will surely yield the results.
  • Cracking CSE is not that difficult and candidates should not take too much of stress.
  • Passion and experience from previous attempts assert success.
  • Syllabus is comprehensive as well as explicitly defined so, you don’t need to get confused.
