Suharsha Bhagat IAS, Rank 5 in Civil Services Exam 2015

Suharsha Bhagat of Bihar has cracked the UPSC Exam and secured All India Rank 5 in the year 2015. Among the boys, Suharsha clinched the top rank and students from Bihar have once again proved their mettle in Civil Service Examination.

Four girls outsmartly captured the first four top ranks in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Ira Singhal from Delhi, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, became the first physically challenged woman, to top the civil services exam. Renu Raj, a doctor from Kerala, and Nidhi Gupta, also an IRS officer from Delhi, secured second and third positions, respectively. Vandana Rao also from Delhi, has got the fourth rank. But the topper among boys, Suharsha Bhagat has ranked fifth and is from Bihar’s Samastipur district.

Family Background

A native of Bhagwan Jaswa village in Samastipur district. Suharsha’s father Dr Birendra Bhagat is a Doctor by profession, mother Madhu Bhagat is a home maker. Suharsha’s younger brother Niketharsha is pursuing MSc from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi.

Educational Background

Suharsha Bhagat passed Class X from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith at Deoghar (Jharkhand) and completed his  higher education from DPS at R K Puram in New Delhi. After which he got graduated by studying chemical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.

It was his dream to join Administrative Service since his college days at Bombay.

Optional Paper

Suharsha Bhagat chose Geography as an optional subject. He said “he got the encouragement to join the administrative service from his father”. Though his background was science, his father and friends asked him to choose geography in the exam.

Attempts by Suharsha Bhagat

Suharsha attempted three times before and cleared the examinations and again he tried in 4th attempt and succeeded in UPSC Civil Services Examinations 2014-2015.

After passing out from IIT Bombay in 2010, Suharsha started preparations for Civil Service Exam and in 2011 he got selected in the Indian Audit and Accounts Service. In 2012, gave the exam again and got into Indian Information Service. In 2013, Suharsha again prepared for the exam and got into the IRS.

Advice to future UPSC Aspirants

  • Newspapers often provide good source and inspiration for essays.
  • Mark all the questions that you know surely in the first glance and cross that questions that you do not know so that you can avoid attempting the questions and wasting time.
  • When you have finished a topic start attempting the previous year question paper.
  • Also give your test after one week of preparation
