0
  • Leander Paes and Marcin Matkowski on 28 September 2014 won the ATP Malaysian Open men’s doubles title.
  • The fourth seeded Indo-Polish duo defeated the second seed Briton-Australian partner, Jamie Murray and John Peers 3-6, 7-6(5), 10-5 in the summit clash played at Kuala
    Lumpur.
  • This was the first title of the season for India’s tennis ace Paes and 54th ATP title of his career. The win gave 250 ranking points to Paes and 25065 US dollars as prize money.
  • For Matkopwski, this was second Malaysian Open crown. He first lifted the trophy in 2009 with Mariusz Fyrstenberg. The 33-year-old Matkowski’s 16th title.
  • Matkowski is the 98th different doubles partner for Paes, who helped him to clinch the 54th ATP title of his career.
  • Paes has won at least one ATP World Tour title each year since 1997 (54-37 finals record). Kuala Lumpur marked his first success since triumphing at the 2013 US Open with Radek Stepanek.
  • The 41-year-old Leander from India, owner of 14 Grand Slam titles from doubles and mixed doubles and his Polish partner played like seasoned team-mates as they came back from a set down to beat the British-Australian partnership of Jamie Murray-John Peers 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-5 at Putra Stadium.

The Ryder Cup

0
  • The Ryder Cup is a biennial men’s golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States.
  • The competition is contested every two years with the venue alternating between courses in the USA and Europe.
  • The Ryder Cup is named after the English businessman Samuel Ryder who
    donated the trophy.
  • The event is jointly administered by the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe, the latter a joint venture of the PGA European Tour (60%), the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland (20%), and the PGA of Europe (20%).
  • Originally contested between Great Britain and the United States, the first official Ryder Cup took place in 1927 at Worcester Country Club, in Massachusetts, US.
  • The home team won the first five contests, but with the competition’s resumption after the Second World War, repeated American dominance eventually led to a decision to extend the representation of “Great Britain and Ireland” to include continental Europe from 1979.
  • The inclusion of continental European golfers was partly prompted by the success of a new generation ofSpanish golfers, led by Seve Ballesteros and Antonio Garrido.
  • In 1973 the official title of the British Team had been changed from “Great Britain” to “Great Britain and Ireland”, but this was simply a change of name to reflect the fact that golfers from the Republic of Ireland had been playing in the Great Britain
Ryder Cup team since 1953, while Northern Irish players had competed since 1947.
  • Since 1979, Europe has won ten times outright and retained the Cup once in a tied match, with seven American wins over this period. The European team has included players from Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden.
  • The Ryder Cup, and its counterpart the Presidents Cup, remain exceptions within the world of professional sports because the players receive no prize money despite the
contests being high-profile events that bring in large amounts of money in television and sponsorship revenue.
  • The current holders are Europe who won for the third successive time at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perth & Kinross, Scotland in 2014. The 2016 Ryder Cup will be at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota from September 30 to October 2.
Europe on 28 September 2014 won the 40th Ryder Cup in Gleneagles, Scotland. Europe
defeated United States by 16½ points to 11½. The team captains were Paul McGinley for Europe and Tom Watson for the USA.
Europe has now won eight of the last 10 Ryder Cups. Europe was the defending cup holders, having defeated the USA in 2012 at Medinah.

This was the second time that Scotland hosted the Ryder Cup. First time, the competition was held at Muirfield in 1973.

VERY GOOD STORY

0

She married him today.

At the end of the wedding party, her mother gave her a newly opened bank savings passbook, with $1000 deposited in it.
She told her, “My dear daughter, take this passbook. Keep it as a record of your married life. Whenever something happy and memorable happens in your new life, put some money in. Write down what it’s about next to the amount. The more memorable the event is,the more money you can put in. I’ve done the first one for you today. Do the others with your husband. When you look back after years, you will know how much happiness you’ve both shared.’

She shared this with him after getting home. Both of them thought it was a great idea and couldn’t wait to make the next deposit! This is what the passbook looked like after a while:

– 7 Feb: $100, his first birthday celebration after marriage
– 1 Mar: $300, she gets a salary raise
– 20 Mar: $200, vacation to Bali
– 15 Apr: $2000, She’s pregnant!
– 1 Jun: $1000, He gets the big promotion
and so on…

However, as the years went by, they began fighting and arguing over trivial things. They didn’t talk much. They regretted that they had married the most nasty person in the world…There was no more love.
One day she talked to her Mother. ‘Mom, we can’t stand it anymore. We have decided to divorce. I can’t imagine how I decided to marry this guy!’

Her mother replied, ‘Sure, that’s no big deal. Just do whatever you want, if you really can’t stand it. But before that, do one thing. Remember the savings passbook I gave you on your wedding day? Take out all money and spend it first. You shouldn’t keep any record of such a poor marriage.’

She agreed with her. So she went to the bank, and was waiting in the queue to cancel the account. While she was waiting, she took a look at the passbook record. She looked, and looked, and looked. Then the memory of all the previous joyful moments came back to her. Her eyes were filled with tears. She left and went home.

When she got home, she handed the passbook to him and asked him to spend the money before getting divorced.

So the next day, he went to the bank, and was waiting in the queue to cancel the account. While he was waiting, he took a look at the passbook record. He looked, and looked, and looked. Then the memory of all the previous joyful moments came back to him. His eyes were filled with tears. He left and went home.

He gave the passbook back to her. She found a new deposit of $5000. And a line next to the record: ‘This is the day I realized how much I’ve loved you throughout all these years. How much happiness you’ve brought me.’

They hugged and cried, putting the passbook back into the safe.
