IPL

Indian Premier League (IPL) is a Twenty20 cricket tournament where different franchise teams participate for the title. The tournament started in 2008 and from then it usually takes place every year in the months of April – June. It is currently supervised by BCCI Vice-President Ranjib Biswal, who serves as the League’s chairman and Commissioner. Sundar Raman has been the IPL chief operating officer (COO) since its first season, after he was appointed by former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi in 2008.

IPL is the most-watched Twenty20 cricket league in the world and also known for its commercial success. The IPL became the first sporting event to be broadcast live on YouTube. It is currently sponsored by Pepsi and thus officially known as the Pepsi Indian Premier League.

There are five ways that a franchise can acquire a player: In the annual auction, signing domestic players, signing uncapped players, through trading, and signing replacements.

IPL was inaugurated in 2008. During the same period Zee “Indian Cricket League” was operational. It was an enormous success. The annual tournament, played mostly in Indian summer has gone from strength to strength and is largely viewed as being the ‘richest’ tournament in world cricket.

Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers were the founding clubs of the new professional league.

Until 2012, the Indian Premier League was sponsored by DLF after they paid $50 million for the five-year sponsorship. Pepsi took over the contract for the 2013 IPL after paying close to $72 million for the 5-year contract. From 2013 season, the American food and beverage company PepsiCo took over title sponsorship for five years valued at ₹3968 million, and also exclusive beverage supplier for the IPL teams in the 2013 season.

IPL Committees

  • Code of Behaviour Committee
  • Technical Committee
  • Entertainment Committee
  • Suspect Bowling Action Committee

The League has been the subject of controversies where allegations of cricket betting, money laundering, termination of franchises and spot fixing were witnessed. The IPL franchise has a number of issues regarding the viability of the business model, sponsorship fees, reduction in the brand value, fees paid to players and other issues that threaten the game.

Here is a list of things you need to teach your Child(ren) at
the early age:

1: Warn your Girl Child Never to sit on anyone’s laps no
matter the situation including uncles.
2: Avoid Getting Dressed in front of your child once he/she
is 2 years old. Learn to excuse them or yourself.
3. Never allow any adult refer to your child as ‘my wife’ or
‘my husband’
4. Whenever your child goes out to play with friends make
sure you look for a way to find out what kind of play they
do because young people now sexually abuse
themselves.
5. Never force your child to visit any adult he or she is not
comfortable with and also be observant if your child
becomes too fond of a particular adult.
6. Once a very lively child suddenly becomes withdrawn
you may need to patiently ask lots of questions from your
child.
7. Carefully educate your grown ups about the right values
of sex. If you don’t, the society will teach them the wrong
values.
8: It is always advisable you go through any new Material
like cartoons you just bought for them before they start
seeing it themselves.

networks and advise your friends especially those your
child(ren) visit(s) often.

properly and warn them never to allow anyone touch those
areas and that
includes you (remember, charity begins at home and
with you).

threaten the sanity of your child (this includes music,
movies and even friends and families).
12. Let your child(ren) understand the value of standing
out of the
crowd.
13: Once your child complains about a particular person,
don’t keep quiet about it.
Take up the case and show them you can defend them.
Remember, we are either parents or parents-to-be.

European Union (EU)

European Union

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 28 member states that are primarily located in Europe. The EU operates through a system of supranational independent institutions and intergovernmental negotiated decisions by the member states.  Institutions of the EU include the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Council, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank, the Court of Auditors, and the European Parliament.

The EU traces its origins from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and the European Economic Community (EEC), formed by the Inner Six countries. The Maastricht Treaty established the European Union under its current name in 1993. The latest major amendment to the constitutional basis of the EU, the Treaty of Lisbon, came into force in 2009.

The EU has developed a single market through a standardized system of laws that apply in all member states. Within the Schengen Area, passport controls have been abolished. EU policies aim to ensure the free movement of people, goods, services, and capital, enact legislation in justice and home affairs, and maintain common policies on trade, agriculture, fisheries, and regional development.

The monetary union was established in 1999 and came into full force in 2002. It is currently composed of 18 member states that use the euro as their legal tender. The union maintains permanent diplomatic missions throughout the world and represents itself at the United Nations, the WTO, the G8, and the G-20.

The six countries signed the Treaty of Rome, which extended the earlier co-operation within the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and created the European Economic Community (EEC), establishing a customs union. They also signed another treaty on the same day creating the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) for co-operation in developing nuclear energy.

Four countries forming the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) have partly committed to the EU’s economy and regulations: Iceland (a candidate country for EU membership), Liechtenstein and Norway, which are a part of the single market through the European Economic Area, and Switzerland, which has similar ties through bilateral treaties.

The European Union has seven institutions: the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, the European Council, the European Central Bank, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Auditors.

The EU has five key points in its energy policy: increase competition in the internal market, encourage investment and boost interconnections between electricity grids; diversify energy resources with better systems to respond to a crisis; establish a new treaty framework for energy co-operation with Russia while improving relations with energy-rich states in Central Asia and North Africa; use existing energy supplies more efficiently while increasing renewable energy commercialization; and finally increase funding for new energy technologies.

Election Commission of India

The Election Commission of India is an autonomous, constitutionally established federal authority responsible for administering all the electoral processes in the Republic of India. The Election Commission has the power of superintendence, direction and control of all elections to the Parliament of India and the state legislatures and of elections to the office of the President of India and the Vice-President of India.

Election Commission of India is a permanent Constitutional Body. The Election Commission was established in accordance with the Constitution on 25th January 1950. The Commission celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2001.

The President appoints Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners. They have tenure of six years, or up to the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. They enjoy the same status and receive salary and perks as available to Judges of the Supreme Court of India. The Chief Election Commissioner can be removed from office only through impeachment by Parliament.

The commission had only a Chief Election Commissioner. It currently consists of Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners. The concept of multi-member Commission has been in operation since then, with decision making power by majority vote.

Sukumar Sen was an Indian civil servant who was the first Chief Election Commissioner of India. The current Chief Election Commissioner is V. S. Sampath.

The Election Commission had tried to bring improvements in election procedures by introduction of EVM – Electronic Voting Machines. It was thought that EVMs would reduce malpractices and improve efficiency. It was first tried out on an experimental basis in the state of Kerala for the 1982 Legislative Assembly Elections.

To prevent electoral fraud, in 1993 EPICs – Electorals Photo Identity Cards were issued. In the 2004 elections, it was mandatory to possess the card.

The Election Commission is regarded as guardian of free and fair elections. In every election, it issues a Model code of Conduct for political parties and candidates to conduct elections in a free and fair manner. The Commission issued the code for the first time in 1971. There are instances of violation of code by the political parties and complaints are received for misuse of official machinery by the candidates.

The Election Commission has fixed the legal limits on the amount of money which a candidate can spend during election campaigns. The Election Commission by appointing observers keeps an eye on the individual account of election expenditure. The contestants are also required to give details of expenditure with 30 days of declaration of results. The Commission can issue an order for prohibition of publication and disseminating of results of opinion polls.
