Indians shine in Asian youth chess standard championship : Indian girls won five Gold medals at the Asian youth chess standard championship which ended in Sari Mazandran, Iran on June 26, 2013. The Gold winners for India were : R.B. Vaishalai (u-12), B. Pratusha (u-18), S. Riya (u-14), D. Divya (u-8) and Savithrishri (u-6). India also won three Silver medals at the meet.
Grand Europe Golden Sands international tourna-ment : Swedish Grandmaster Nils Grandelius clinched the tide at the Grand Europe Golden Sands international chess tournament that ended in Varna, Bulgaria on June 19, 2013. Indian Grandmaster M.R. Venkatesh finished a creditable fifth. India’s women’s National champion Mary Ann Gomes also came up with a superb performance and emerged as the Best Woman Player at the tournament.
Grand Europe Albena chess tournament : The Grand Europe Albena chess tottmament, held in Albena, Bulgaria, wrapped up on June 8, 2013. Tigran Petrosian of Armenia emerged champion at the tournament. Four players—Hrant Melkumyan of Armenia, Mircea-Emilian Parligras of Romania, Tamir Nabaty of Israel and Vitaliy Bernadskiy of Ukraine—tied for the second place.
