Lord Hardinge II (1910-16)
During Lord Hardinge II tenure. King George V accompanied by Queen Mary visited India in December 1911 as a consequence of which the seat of government was shifted from Calcutta to Delhi and the partition of Bengal was annulled.
Indian support to war efforts : The annulment of the partition of Bengal paved the way for India’s fullest support to Britain’s war efforts. It encouraged the Indian nationalists led by Mahatma Gandhi to support the Government in the 1914 World War.
